World Bank, ARTF Provide Additional Financing to the Afghanistan Community Resilience and Livelihoods Project
Exciting news from Afghanistan! The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a $84 million grant from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Afghanistan Community Resilience and Livelihoods Project, which complements $70 million in additional financing from the Afghanistan Resilience Trust Fund (ARTF).
Since its launch in 2022 with a total grant of $265 million, this initiative has made a significant impact throughout Afghanistan. To date, we have provided short-term employment to over 890,000 households, benefiting approximately 6.3 million Afghans. Additionally, 122,440 vulnerable households have received support through cash transfers or social grants, with a focus on female-headed households and those with disabilities.
Infrastructure enhancements have improved access to essential services such as roads, sanitation, and water supply for about 9.8 million Afghans. We've also trained more than 632,380 community members in health, nutrition, climate change, and disaster risk management. With this new funding, our ambitions grow stronger: scaling up livelihood opportunities, particularly for women; expanding efforts to enhance climate resilience; providing employment and services to returning Afghan migrants; and strengthening community institutions across all regions and provinces. This project is dedicated to building a resilient future for all Afghans.
