ACRLP shortlisted for UN Procurement Award for Sustainable Procurement
The Afghanistan Community Resilience and Livelihoods Project (CRLP) has been recognized by the UN Global Procurement Awards for its innovative procurement strategies. Shortlisted among four global projects, CRLP is acknowledged for its role in revitalizing Afghanistan's private sector and fostering community engagement amid the challenges following the Taliban’s takeover.
Key strategies such as sustainability assessments, vendor capacity building, and promoting joint ventures have helped ensure ethical labor standards, gender equality, and stakeholder participation. These efforts have boosted local economies, created jobs, and improved urban environments, contributing to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
-
SDG 1 (No Poverty): Support for 1.3 million households
-
SDG 5 (Gender Equality): Empowering women in the workforce
-
SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth): Job creation for economic stability
-
SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): Social grants to 122,450 vulnerable households
-
SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities): Improved urban infrastructure for 9 million people
-
SDG 13 (Climate Action): Integration of environmental assessments in procurement
-
SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, & Strong Institutions): Promoting transparency and ethical labor practices.
CRLP’s contributions highlight its commitment to global sustainability and economic recovery in Afghanistan.
ACRLP wins UNOPS Project of the Year 2023 Asia Region
The ACRLP (Afghanistan Community Resilience and Livelihoods Project) has been awarded the prestigious UNOPS Project of the Year (POTYA) for the Asia region, out of 1,100 projects implemented across 80+ countries in 2023. This recognition highlights the program's significant impact on nearly 10 million people in Afghanistan and its excellence in project management, addressing critical needs while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
CRLP’s success is rooted in strong community engagement, job creation, and social grants that improve household resilience. By addressing urgent needs and providing practical solutions, the project fosters both immediate relief and long-term sustainability. Notably, 56.7% of social grants have been distributed to women, many of whom are now heads of households due to various socio-economic challenges.
In a challenging environment, CRLP has built strong local and international partnerships, enhanced local capacity in the construction sector, and maintained transparency in financial management. The project’s innovative approach, particularly in procurement and cash distribution, serves as a model for future initiatives in similar contexts.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication of UNOPS partners, including donors, contractors, and communities. Congratulations to all involved!
